What are comfort settings and how does scheduling work on my ecobee4?

The best way to save money and make the most of your smart thermostat is by utilizing new custom comfort settings and determining your own personal schedule. Your schedule is made up of two main components:

  1. Activities tell your thermostat how you organize your day — what time you wake up, leave for work, return from work, go to sleep, etc.

  1. Comfort Settings tell your thermostat what temperature you want your home to be during these Activities.

ecobee4 comes with default comfort settings (home/sleep/away) and a default schedule that assumes you wake up at 6:30 AM and go to bed at 11:30 PM – using the comfort settings “home” between 6:30 AM and 11:30 AM and “sleep” between 11:30 PM to 6:30 AM.

Set up your personal schedule and determine your own comfort settings for each activity to make your home as comfortable as possible, while saving energy (and money) at the same time.

Setting up your Schedule

You can change your schedule anytime from your thermostat or online, and from anywhere with our mobile app.

With your ecobee or on the app: (You cannot create new comfort profiles on the mobile app, only the web portal)

  1. Select MAIN MENU then tap SCHEDULE
  2. Touch the day of the week you want to adjust.
  3. Select an existing scheduled activity to edit.
  4. If you have added a new activity, you need to select Comfort Setting to use.
  5. Touch SAVE.
  6. Touch the Back arrow to return to the Schedule screen where you can make additional changes as required.

Hint: You can copy the entire schedule from one day to another day (for example, if all your week days follow the same schedule). Display the first day, touch the copy button, select which days to apply the changes to, and touch Save.

Adjusting Comfort Settings

Comfort settings make sure your home is the right temperature during specific activities in your schedule.

For example, when you’re home your ecobee can turn the heating on if the temperature falls below 70F and turn the cooling on if the temperature rises above 78F. Or when you’re away, only turn heating on if the temperature falls below 62F and turn cooling on if the temperature rises above 85F.

Customize your comfort settings with your ecobee or on the app:

  1. Select MAIN MENU, then tap COMFORT SETTINGS
  2. Select the Comfort Setting you want to customize.
  3. Adjust the set points for heat and cool, as well as fan mode as required.
  4. You can also now select which sensors are participating in this comfort setting.
  5. Touch SAVE.

Create a new comfort setting through the ecobee web portal:

  1. Select SCHEDULE tile.
  2. Select the Comfort Setting you want to customize, or select New Comfort Setting to add a new one.
  3. Adjust the name, set points for heat and cool, as well as fan mode as required.
  1. Select if this Comfort Setting is for when the home is Occupied or Unoccupied.
  2. Select SAVE. The new Comfort Setting will appear in the Schedule tile as well as on the thermostat itself.
