I have an Apple TV installed but Siri isn’t working away from home

To control a HomeKit-enabled ecobee device with Siri or the Apple Home app when you're away from home, you'll need a HomePod, Apple TV 4k or Apple TV (4th generation or later) which acts as a home hub.

  • If remote access isn’t working for you, please make sure you’re signed in to the same iCloud account on your iOS device and Apple TV.
  • If you continue to have issues, try signing out of iCloud on your Apple TV, then sign back in.
  • If remote access still doesn’t work, try power cycling your Apple TV. If problems persist, please contact our support team (1-877-932-6233) for further troubleshooting. 

Connecting a brand new Apple TV to iCloud and your ecobee device



  1. To simulate being away from home, disable Wi-Fi from the iPhone.
  2. Send a Siri command to the ecobee device.
  3. Make sure that the ecobee device and iPhone are connected to the same Wi-Fi Network.
  4. Turn on the Apple TV and connect to the same network as your ecobee device and iPhone.
  5. Connect the Apple TV to the same iCloud account.

    ecobee device should get the Apple TV keys within five minutes (applicable only to ecobee thermostats).

To verify that Apple TV your ecobee thermostat is connected to your Apple TV (applicable only to ecobee thermostats).

  1. Simulate being away from home by disabling your iPhone's Wi-Fi.
  2. Send a Siri command to the ecobee device.
