I received a "Service Reminder" from ecobee. What does this mean?

What is a Service Reminder?

A service Reminder lets you know when it's time for regular maintenance or inspection of your Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) system or its various components.

Why did I receive a Service Reminder?

You receive Service Reminders if your ecobee thermostat has been set to allow periodic reminders.

While the ecobee thermostat does not know the actual state of your HVAC equipment, the Reminder feature is a convenient, configurable way to notify you when it's time for service.

When your ecobee thermostat generates a Reminder, the following will happen:

  • A tiny dot icon will appear on the Main Menu icon on your thermostat, indicating a pending Reminder that is viewable via Main Menu > Reminders & Alerts
  • You will receive a push notification on your phone if Push Notifications are enabled in Account > Notifications
  • You will receive an email copy of the Reminder from ecobee

Can I change my Reminder Preferences?

You can toggle specific Reminder types on or off, change the frequency in which reminders are generated, and adjust the date your equipment was last serviced.

How do I change my Reminder Preferences?

To adjust your Reminder Preferences:

  1. Open the ecobee App.
  2. Select the thermostat you want to adjust.
  3. Select Main Menu.
  4. Select Reminders & Alerts.
  5. Select Reminder Preferences.
  6. Select the Reminder type you wish to adjust.
  7. Make your changes.

How do I stop Reminders?

Once you are in the Reminder Preferences submenu (or the Preferences submenu on your physical thermostat), use the Receive Reminder toggle or the Reminder option to toggle Reminders for the selected equipment type on or off.

How do I change the frequency of Reminders?

Once you are in the Reminder Preferences submenu (or the Preferences submenu on your physical thermostat), select Frequency or Remind Me to adjust the rate in which you will receive Reminders for the selected equipment type. Select Save or OK when you are done.

Note: Adjusting the frequency will NOT reset the accumulated run-time from the last received Reminder.

How do I set the date that my equipment was last serviced?

Once you are in the Reminder Preferences menu (or the Preferences menu on your physical thermostat), select Last Service Date to adjust the date the type of equipment was last serviced, and select Save or OK when you are done.

How do I acknowledge a Reminder once service has been performed?

It is important to let your ecobee thermostat know once HVAC service has been completed by acknowledging the Reminder, which updates the Last Serviced Date to the current date and clears the Reminder from. Otherwise, the ecobee will retain the previous Last Service Date and may continually remind you to schedule service with additional Reminders.

On the thermostat screen or mobile app, navigate to the Reminders & Alerts menu to get started.

If you are using the app, select the Reminder from underneath the Messages header to select the date service was completed and press Service Scheduled to save changes and acknowledge the Reminder.

If you are using the thermostat screen, select the Reminders menu icon to bring up a list of currently active Reminders. Select the applicable Reminder to view the details, and then tap Service Scheduled in the bottom right to save changes and acknowledge the Reminder.
