Alexa Announcements is a feature that allows you to broadcast a brief voice message, of up to 10 seconds, to every compatible Alexa-enabled device in your household, such as the SmartThermostat with voice control, ecobee4 thermostat and ecobee Switch+. The Announcements feature is enabled by default for all compatible devices.
How to make an Alexa Announcement:
Simply say to your SmartThermostat with voice control, ecobee4, or Switch+ one of the phrases listed below, followed by your announcement:
- "Alexa, tell everyone..."
- "Alexa, announce..."
- "Alexa, broadcast..."
Alternatively, you can say "Alexa, make an announcement" and Alexa will reply by saying, "What's the Announcement?"
Once you've finished recording your message, Alexa will confirm the request by saying "Announcing”.
Before your announcement is broadcast, each receiving device will play a chime and the light ring will turn blue (for devices equipped with a light ring) to indicate an Announcement is incoming. Your announcement is then played immediately afterward.
How to replay an announcement:
Announcements can be replayed for up to 10 seconds after their initial broadcast. Simply say "Alexa, repeat" or "Alexa, what was that?" to repeat the announcement on the Alexa-enabled device you’re making the request from.
How to block a device from receiving an Alexa Announcement:
If an Alexa-enabled device is in “Do Not Disturb” mode, that device will not receive or broadcast announcements. For more information on enabling or disabling Do Not Disturb mode, please visit: How to use Do Not Disturb on Alexa-enabled devices
In addition to using the Do Not Disturb option, you can also turn off inbound and outbound Announcements for specific devices via the Alexa app. This can be done by taking the following steps:
- Open the Alexa app
- Choose Settings
- Choose Alexa Devices
- Select the device you want to make changes to
- Choose Communications
- Toggle the button to turn Announcements on or off
