Replacing your air filter

Replacing your filters is essential to keep your home's air quality clean and your HVAC system running efficiently. Here's how to get the job done in 4 easy steps.

STEP 1

Turn the system off

Set your ecobee thermostat's HVAC mode to off. This stops airflow through the system while you change the filter.

Tap the mode icon above the temperature reading on the thermostat's main screen.

STEP 2

Remove the old filter

Open your filter panel or return grate and remove the old filter. Most filters slide out easily.

Filter panels are typically found on your wall or ceiling, or directly inside your furnace.

STEP 3

Insert the new filter

Your new filter has an arrow pointed on the side indicating the direction of air flow. Ensure this is pointing the correct way (into your duct) before you insert the filter. Close the panel when you're done.

The arrow indicates the direction of airflow.

Finishing up

Return to your ecobee thermostat and adjust the HVAC mode to its previous setting.

HVAC filters are made of woven polyester / fibreglass, which unfortunately is not recyclable. To dispose of a used filter, simply place it in the garbage.
