In addition, replacing a dirty filter can lower your heating and cooling energy consumption by 5-15% according to the U.S. EPA.
That’s why we created ecobee Air Filters, a simple subscription service that works with your ecobee thermostat to take the hassle out of replacing your air filter, helping your save energy and improve your indoor air quality to keep your family and pets healthy.
How does ecobee Air Filters work?
Sign up is simple and takes about 3 minutes. Let us know what size of filter you currently use in your home, what pollutants you would like to filter out of your indoor air and how often you will replace your filter. ecobee will handle the rest!
We'll send you a multibox with enough filters for two replacements, half as often to reduce the impact of your shipments and help you save. Our filters are also shipped in recyclable packaging and shipping is always free.
Once you receive your box, simply replace your dirty filter with a fresh one, and store the other one for your next replacement. Your thermostat reminders are synced with your subscription, so you'll never miss a replacement in-between shipments.

What types of filters does ecobee Air Filters offer?
ecobee Air Filters offers virtually every size of pleated 1-2" thickness air filter, including custom sizes you can't easily find elsewhere, as well as "whole house" pleated 4-5" thickness filters, in three different qualities depending on your home's needs:
- Basic quality - Great for homeowners looking to catch some of the bigger annoyances, like dust and pollen particles. MERV 8 level of filtration.
- Deluxe quality - Great for those needing to catch smaller particles like pet dander in addition to dust and mold. A must have for pet owners. MERV 11 level of filtration.
- Premium quality - Perfect for customers who want to catch all the particles they can, even some of the smallest ones like cooking oil and cigarette smoke. MERV 13 level of filtration.
The static pressure drop ratings are 0.122 inH2O for Basic, 0.181 inH2O for Deluxe, 0.264 inH2O for Premium.
ecobee Air filters does not currently provide accordion filters (such as Airilaire filters), fiberglass filters, media roll filters, HEPA filters, or carbon filters.
What does MERV mean?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value is an industry-standard rating for the level of filtration provided by a filter that was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers (ASHRAE). MPR (Microparticle Performance Rating) and Filter Performance Rating (FPR) are brand-specific equivalents.
Have I entered the right filter size when signing up?
Air filters often have a nominal size and actual size and you may see both on your existing filter.
The nominal size is what the filter is labeled in large print and is what you should select you sign up for the service.
The actual size of a filter is its true size, which are the dimensions you’d get if you measured each side of the filter with a tape measure. This size is usually printed below the nominal size on the filter in a smaller font.
How do I replace my filter once I receive my new one?
Replacing an air filter out is generally simple. You just need to know where filters are usually located, what a dirty filter will look like, and to be mindful of the air flow arrow on the filter when inserting the new one. See here for full instructions.
