Using Amazon Alexa with your SmartCamera with voice control

With Alexa enabled, you can ask questions, listen to music, have drop-in calls, and experience all the great Alexa functionality you’re used to.

With the ecobee Skill, you’re also able to view live video and have Two-Way Talk through a screen-enabled Alexa device, like an Echo Show.

 

Enabling and Using Alexa

How do I enable Alexa on my SmartCamera with voice control?

You can enable Amazon Alexa Voice service on your SmartCamera via the Settings menu in the ecobee app.

  1. Open the ecobee app and select your SmartCamera with voice control from the list of devices
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to reach the Settings menu
  3. Tap Link Amazon Alexa
  4. Tap Sign in with Amazon
  5. Sign in using your Amazon credentials
  6. Tap Allow
  7. Say “Alexa, discover devices” to your SmartCamera with voice control and then tap I've Said it

 

How do I know when Alexa is listening? Is there a way to mute her?

You can tell if Alexa is listening by observing the LED indicators on the SmartCamera with voice control.

Once you’ve successfully linked your SmartCamera with voice control to Alexa, simply say the wake word “Alexa” and the LED indicators will light up blue, indicating Alexa is ready to listen to your command.

By pressing the Mute button located on the top left of your SmartCamera with voice control, the LED indicators on the SmartCamera with voice control will light up red, indicating Alexa is in Privacy Mode and will not respond to the “Alexa” wake word. Pressing the Mute button again will cancel Privacy Mode.

 

How do I unlink Amazon Alexa Voice Service from my SmartCamera?

 If you ever need to unlink your SmartCamera with voice control from Alexa:

  1. Open the ecobee app and select your SmartCamera from the list of devices
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to reach the Settings menu
  3. Tap Alexa under Integrations and then tap Unlink Alexa

 

How can I check if my ecobee and my Amazon Echo Show are connected?

In order to check whether or not your ecobee SmartCamera with voice control and Echo Show are connected, you’ll need to verify the following through the Alexa app:

  • The ecobee skill is enabled
  • Your Amazon Echo Show and ecobee SmartCamera with voice control are on the same account

How to tell the ecobee skill is enabled:

  1. Open the Alexa app and tap the top left Menu icon
  2. Tap Skills & Games
  3. Tap the magnifying glass icon and type in “ecobee” to search for the ecobee Skill
  4. Tap ecobee from the list of skills
  5. Verify that the ecobee Skill is enabled — If the skill is not yet enabled, you will see an Enable Skill button

How to tell if the ecobee and Amazon Echo Show are on the same account:

  1. Open the Alexa app and tap the Devices icon in the bottom right
  2. Tap Echo & Alexa to display a list of Alexa-enabled devices on your account
  3. You should see both the SmartCamera with voice control and Echo Show listed

Two-way Talk Commands

Start a conversation between the SmartCamera and other Alexa devices thanks to the built in microphone.

Just say:

“Alexa, answer the front door.”
Alexa, talk to the front door.”
Alexa, talk to the backyard camera.”
Alexa, talk to the baby monitor.”
Alexa, get the call going with the front door.”
Alexa, please call front door.”
Alexa, respond to the front door.”
Alexa, speak to the front door.”
Alexa, talk to my front door camera.”
Alexa, talk to the person at the main door.”

 

Amazon Echo Show Commands

Get your live feed showing on your Amazon Echo Show by simply using one of the new commands available for the SmartCamera with voice control.

Just say:

“Alexa, show me the Front Door.”
“Alexa, talk to the Baby Monitor.”
“Alexa, speak to the Office Camera.”

 

Other Alexa commands

The SmartCamera with voice control has all the same Alexa features and functionality as the ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control.
