Using the ecobee Web Portal


The ecobee residential Web Portal is a convenient and free to use web browser interface for accessing and controlling your ecobee thermostats.

NOTE: The residential Web Portal is designed to accommodate up to 10-15 registered thermostats without issues, as it is intended primarily for residential use. If you have more thermostats than this, it may have issues loading and may display a black screen.

Getting Started with the Web Portal

Login at with your username and password. The username and password for your account are the same credentials used when using the ecobee app.

When you login, if you have more than one thermostat registered to your account, you will be greeted by the following screen:


Click Quick View for a brief overview of your thermostat’s status, and then click View Full Status to access the individual thermostat to view further details and other options.


Web Portal Overview and Features

The Web Portal features many of the same menu options available on the thermostat and the app, as well as a few features that can only be enabled via the portal.

NOTE: Depending on your model of thermostat, the available options will vary.

Home Selector




The currently selected Home is displayed here. If multiple Homes are available on your account, click Change Home to change the currently selected Home.



Thermostat main screen



This tile displays your current thermostat's temperature and relative humidity%, as well as the current set point. The temperature displayed here is the current average based on your thermostat's Comfort Settings and sensor participation profiles.

To adjust the temperature by setting a Hold, click and hold the temperature slider on the right hand side of the tile, move the mouse cursor up or down to increase/decrease the set point, and let go of the mouse button when you are done.

To change system modes, click the system mode icon just underneath the thermostat name.



Fan Settings toggle



Using this toggle will change your thermostat's fan mode to Auto or ON.

NOTE: When this toggle is used, the thermostat will "hold" the selected fan setting and current temperature set point indefinitely. To resume your schedule, cancel the hold via the thermostat main screen by tapping the "and holding" text.



Quick Changes menu



Clicking on Home for Now or Away for Now will set your thermostat to "hold" your Home or Away comfort setting temperature/sensor settings. It will continue to do this and override your schedule until the Hold is cancelled.



Settings menu




Time: This will allow you to select your thermostat's time zone as well as switch between 12 hour and 24 hour time format.

NOTE: If your thermostat is not automatically switching over to Daylight Savings Time, please contact ecobee support


Preferences: This menu will allow you to change various thermostat settings, including:

  • Temperature Display (Fahrenheit or Celsius)
  • Heat Set Point range and Cool Set Point Range
  • Hold Action Duration
  • Thermostat Name
  • Smart Recovery enable/disable for Heat Mode and/or Cool Mode

Access Control: This menu will allow you to enable or disable a 4 digit access code to block unauthorized access from the thermostat's touch screen.

To set an access control code:

  1. Click the toggle switch to set Access Control to Enable.
  2. Enter a preferred 4 digit access control code
  3. Click the checkboxes to set which features you want to be locked by Access Control
  4. Click Save to finish (you may need to scroll down)

NOTE: Access Control is applicable to the thermostat touch screen only. It does NOT block changes made from the ecobee app or Web Portal.


Property Characteristics: This will allow you to set your thermostat's Property Characteristics, including:

  • Building style (apartment, condo, detached, etc)
  • Building size (in square feet)
  • Number of floors
  • Number of bedrooms
  • Number of full-time occupants
  • Age of building in years

This information is required in order to generate HomeIQ reports. In order to ensure your HomeIQ reports are able to generate and are accurate, ensure all of these fields are filled out and are as accurate as possible.

NOTE: If you have multiple thermostats controlling multiple zones in the same house, it is recommended to enter the property characteristics of the zone the thermostat controls. For example, if your thermostat controls the heating and cooling on one floor, enter "1" for number of floors.


Reset Schedule and Preferences: This will reset your ecobee thermostat's Preferences and Schedule back to their defaults.

NOTE: If you need to change the physical address of your thermostat, you will need to do so via the Manage Homes menu in the ecobee app found under the Account menu. Saving an address change to your Home via this menu will update the physical address on each thermostat in that Home



System menu




HVAC: Change the ecobee's current System mode (Heat, Cool, Auto, Aux, Off). The options listed will vary depending on your thermostat's configuration.

Fan: allows you to set a fan minimum runtime value.

Humidifier, Dehumidifier, or Ventilator: If your ecobee is configured to be able to control an HVAC accessory (Humidifier, Dehumidifier, or Ventilator), you will see options for the installed HVAC accessory here.

NOTE: You will also see a Dehumidifier option if your ecobee is configured to use the AC Overcool Max feature


Reminders & Alerts menu




Reminders: View unacknowledged Reminders. Select a Reminder from the list in the middle, and then use the buttons on the right hand side of the screen to acknowledge the Reminder or to "Remind me Later", which will cause the Reminder to pop up again at a later date.

Alerts: View unacknowledged Alerts. Select an Alert from the list in the middle, and use the OK button in the bottom right to acknowledge the selected Alert.

Preferences: Enable, disable and configure various types of Reminders & Alerts.



Vacation menu




From this menu, you can create Vacation events by clicking New Vacation, or you can view, edit, or delete pending Vacation events by selecting them from the left hand side of the screen.

NOTE: If you attempt to create a Vacation with the same start date and end date, the ecobee will automatically adjust the end date for the next day. If you are going to be away from your home for a period of less than 24 hours, it is recommended to use Away for Now from the Quick Changes menu instead.


Weather menu




This menu will show additional weather information, including the forecast for the next 4 days.


Alexa Voice Control menu




NOTE: This menu is only available on ecobee Smart Thermostat with voice control and ecobee4 thermostats

Settings: Adjust the volume of the Alexa speaker on your thermostat, or turn the microphone on or off

About Alexa: Displays some sample phrases you can use with Alexa

Unlink Alexa: If you need to unlink Alexa from a particular thermostat, select this option and then click the Unlink Alexa button in the bottom right.


HomeIQ menu:



Clicking HomeIQ will take you to the HomeIQ overview screen. From here, you can view various aspects of your HomeIQ reports, or use the System Monitor to take a closer look at your runtime reports.

Schedule menu:




Edit your thermostat's existing schedule, and create additional Custom Comfort Settings. Please click here for more detailed information on creating a schedule through the ecobee Web Portal .

Sensors menu:




NOTE: This menu will vary depending on the model of thermostat you have, as well as whether or not you have a wireless Room Sensor or ecobee SmartSensor paired. If the Smart Home/Away or Follow Me features are not available on your thermostat, they may not appear as options in this menu. If you have no wireless Room Sensors or SmartSensors paired, this menu option may not be available.

Smart Home/Away: Toggle Smart Home/Away on or off for your thermostat.

Follow Me: Toggle Follow Me on or off for your thermostat.

Sensor Participation: Click on a sensor to display a list of checkboxes with your thermostat's comfort settings. Use the checkboxes to adjust which comfort settings the sensor will participate in.


About Menu



Displays your thermostat model, firmware version, serial number, and thermostat name.


My Devices



Clicking here will allow you to select a different thermostat within the currently selected Home.


Thermostat Groups




From this menu, you can Group multiple thermostats and have them synchronize some of their settings. Click Add New Group to create a Group and bring up a separate menu, or click Edit next to any existing groups to change existing Group preferences.


Group Name: Allows you to name the group

Settings: Use the checkboxes to select what to synchronize between thermostats

  • Alerts
  • Address
    • NOTE: If your thermostats are in a Home, there is no need to synchronize the Address anymore, as the Home will automatically do this for you
  • Contractor Information
  • Preferences
  • Reminders
  • System Mode (Heat, Cool, Auto, Aux, Off)
  • Schedule
  • Vacation

NOTE: If Reminders and/or Alerts are selected, every thermostat in your Group will receive a duplicate Alert or Reminder if any other thermostat generates one. This may also result in receiving duplicate Reminder/Alert emails and notifications. If you have a large number of thermostats on your account, it is highly recommended that you do NOT group Alerts and/or Reminders.


Group Membership: Select which thermostats are included in this group

NOTE: Thermostats can only be a member of one Group at a time.



Account Settings menu




My Account: 

  • Account Information allows you to change the First Name and Last Name on your account. Click the Save button when finished.
  • Reset Password allows you to reset your password
  • Unregister Thermostat allows you to unregister one or multiple thermostats if desired

Add Thermostat: From this menu, you can register a thermostat by entering a 4 digit registration code.

Subscriptions: This will take you to to manage subscriptions such as ecobee Air Filters or ecobee Haven

Donate Your Data: Opt in or out of the Donate Your Data program.

My Apps: View or remove linked 3rd-party APIs such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or IFTTT, or link APIs that require a 4 digit PIN such as Control4.


  • Only the Owner of the ecobee Home can add or remove 3rd party APIs from the account.
  • "Amazon Smart Home" and "Amazon" represent the "ecobee" skill and "ecobee plus" skill for Alexa, respectively

Developer: If you have created an ecobee developer account, you will see a Developer option here. Clicking this will bring up a Developer menu.
